Questions about JavaScript bridge

Hi.

I have some questions about the javascript bridge api.

1- Is it based on JavaScript code? Or another programming language? If it's a javascript code, then how it would access the native functionalities of a mobile phone? If it's another programming language, then what is it?

2- You said that it enables accessing mobiles' native functionalities. And I had an experience with it trying to turn on Location services after prompting for the permission and allowing access. Unfortunately, it couldn't do that. My question is, is that because that cannot be done? Or just because it's a feature that you did not implement till now and could be there in the future?
